Melissa Heche, AuD
Dr. Heche is a Doctor of Audiology and Clinical Voice and Swallowing Pathologist. She is dually certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and licensed in New York State in Audiology and Speech Pathology. In addition, she is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and is Board Certified in Audiology. Dr. Heche is also a NYS licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser. Particular specialties include the prevention, assessment and treatment of hearing/auditory and balance disorders in conjunction with the evaluation and treatment of disorders of the vocal folds and swallow function.

After having received a Bachelor of Arts degree (summa cum laude) in Speech and Hearing Sciences, Dr. Heche continued on to receive dual Master’s of Arts degrees with Distinction in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Hofstra University. She later received a Doctor of Audiology degree from the School of Audiology at Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Training was completed at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and Northport Veteran’s Administration.

Dr. Heche’s clinical skills include experience in acute care (hospital), subacute, long-term care settings and medically based private practice. She has worked with patients who have presented with strokes, heart attacks, tumors, head and neck cancers, pulmonary disorders (including tracheostomy and ventilator dependency) and more specific otologic (ear-related) and vestibular based disorders. She has also worked as an adjunct professor at LIU-Brooklyn College, educating graduate students regarding the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of hearing loss.

Dr. Heche also works closely with the musical and performance community, addressing the needs of musicians and vocalists with respect to the maintenance and perpetuation of hearing and vocal health. She provides seminars regarding vocal health practices to public speakers. She also offers the service of accent reduction for people who speak English as a second language and accent acquisition for actors who may need to learn alternate speech patterns.
